Where We Fit

Admits to treatment from 2006 (the most recent year reported by SAMHSA), broken down by substance. You are not alone!

Some representing higher than others, but you are never alone.  For example, in 2008 we had just one PCP addicted client. A small set, but not unseen. We have seen our pot-addicted clients increase the past six months. Three mid-20s young men pot-addicted just this past month.

Regionally, I think in the Northeast Opiate addiction makes up a higher percentage than these national percentages. Numbers on a graph. People each one of them. As my momma would say, “every last one, some mother’s child.”

True, true. Some mother’s child, all grown up, and struggling in the groups that find their way to my doorstep.

Have been traveling this week. A good friend, in the hospital unexpectedly. Out of the blue. Whooosh! Life intrudes. Very sick. He is in my thoughts; my thoughts and prayers. In Texas today. Buffalo Gap, Texas – home to Shades of Hope Treatment Center. A good spot, brimming with help and healing. Their primary focus is disordered eating – with co-occurring disorders as well. 12 Step based. Fine folks. Shades of Hope. Check it out on the web.

Not even part of the above stats, is disordered eating treatment admissions. Nor other process addictions we have seen increases in. More to come from Buffalo Gap – population 436.

I bought a tuxedo in Chicago last week for the Inauguration. Exciting days these. In all the turmoil and flux, amidst the panic and passion for change, there is hope. I put that front of mind. On hope I choose to focus.

Hope over despair. Right action over emotional bursts that accomplish less than what some might hope. Change begins.

Onward,

Brad
